Listen to this week’s crispy-fried episode here!
Hot Dog Guy Kelly Koh takes us not far from his home turf of Katong to Marine Parade Central this week, for a dish he never really took to until he tried it here. Izah Rahman Corner’s Ayam Penyet (Indonesian-style deep-fried, smashed-flattened chicken) took him completely by surprise. And this is not just any Ayam Penyet, this one is called Obama!
Catchy name aside, the Ayam Penyet Obama served up here is absolutely delicious. Served with sambal, deep-fried tofu and a little side salad with rice, one wonders how they manage to keep it so tender and juicy, despite being deep-fried to crispy perfection on the outside. As for the presidential name, rumour has it that when the US president was visiting Indonesia, one of his favourite dishes was Ayam Penyet, so the cheeky people who run Izah Rahman Corner decided to name their chicken dish after POTUS!
While you’re there, Kelly also recommends the Sup Bakso (with lots of spicy sambal) & Mee Rebus (his wife’s favourite), but really, with the many different dishes being cooked up, you’ll be spoilt for choice, but never disappointed. Everything’s yummy!
