Listen to this week’s mouth-watering episode on sandwiches here!
Today, our Makan Kaki Chef Anthony Yeoh of Restaurant Cocotte suggests we have lunch in the Telok Ayer area at Park Bench Deli. Run by Tony’s buddy Ming, this sandwich joint serves up loaded, inventive creations of meat, magic and so much more. In fact, if you’re a meat lover, you have got to go for the Cured Meat Sandwich – brioche bun packed with layers of delicious deli cuts of meat like Salami and Pancetta and also Mozarella cheese and tomato,
The other one Tony urges you to try is their Kong Bak Banh Mi (Vietnamese French Baguette). What makes this sandwich such a winner is the pork belly which is cooked with coffee. It adds this earthy, nutty flavour to the meat and the caffeine really gives jolt of energy to the whole sandwich. This Banh Mi is a little sweet, a little salty and a whole lot of fresh with the veggies garnishing the pork belly in the bun. Be prepared to get a little messy – juices will be dripping down your hands, so have lots of serviettes handy!
Finally, a sweet treat – the dessert of sandwiches and specially for those who get to Park Bench Deli early enough for breakfast – the PB&J sandwich. Classic American, with the peanut butter and jam, but given the “Ming Swing” with an extra coating of cornflakes! The ENTIRE exterior of the sandwich is covered in cornflakes and cooked with plenty of butter for a crispy, crunchy first bite before your teeth sink into the oozy goodness of the peanut butter and jam inside. Ridiculously excellent!
