Click to listen to/ download the podcast of this week’s crispy, pungent episode!

Ah Tan Wings have great what’s app service – very accommodating & prompt! I was able to use my own takeaway containers to reduce waste.

Are you looking for a yummy, affordable circuit breaker meal you can have delivered or pick-up quickly? If you’re craving something deep-fried and delicious, you’ve got to try har cheong gai, or shrimp paste fried chicken – our local version of fast food – from Ah Tan Wings.

2 giant Atas Cutlet sets (enough to feed 4) & 4 extra chicken wings

I have to say, what an excellent find! Their fried chicken is super-tasty, reasonably priced and pre-ordering was easy via WhatsApp for next day pick-up and my meal tuned out to be impressive.I ordered  2 Atas Cutlet Sets at $6.80 each, which came with a massive piece of crispy, golden-brown chicken thigh coated in their signature shrimp paste batter, served on top of a mountain of chicken rice, a fried egg boasting a still slightly runny centre & lots of crunchy-fresh Japanese cucumber slices.

Combining everything in one perfect bite, you get lightly-flavoured al dente rice, tender, very juicy chicken covered in that aromatically crisp, intense shrimp-flavoured coating and the ooey-gooey centre of the egg yolk blankets everything with rich, silken creaminess. The accompanying chunky chilli sauce was a hit in my spice-loving household! It’s very much like chicken rice chilli – spicy, slightly sweet & sour, bursting with the heat of chilli, the zing of ginger and the tang of lime. They were very generous with their takeaway portions of chilli and drizzled over everything, it really lifted the pungent, deep-fried goodness of the chicken. In fact, you can also purchase $10 jars of their signature chilli for takeaway/ delivery too!I also ordered an extra 4 chicken wings at $1.80 each (minimum order of 2) to supplement the already filling cutlet sets. These wings are extra addictive – moist on the inside, crusty & crunchy on the outside.

Look how crispy & crunchy these golden-brown wings are!

I appreciate that lemon wedges were thoughtfully provided to brighten the intense flavours. What a deeply umami, highly seasoned and mouth-wateringly fragrant treat! If I wasn’t so full from sharing the atas cutlet set, I probably could have polished all of them off myself! While the chicken remained hot & deliciously crispy from pickup at  Timbre+ to my home, they also do well if heated up in a toaster oven. That way, you’ll get piping-hot, extra-crispy chicken goodness!I found my meal from Ah Tan Wings very worth it for a total of $20.80, with portions generous enough to feed 3-4 hungry people. Really a breeze to pre-order, I got prompt replies via WhatsApp and they were very accommodating – I was able to use my own takeaway containers to reduce waste.

I picked up my order from Timbre+, a 2 minute drive from my work place and at 2.30pm, it was quiet, there was no queue, the takeaway process took just 5 minutes and parking was free. But if you prefer, they have free island-wide delivery for a minimum spend of $30 – $35, depending on your location. You can check out their full menu on facebook or they conveniently sent it to me when I texted them to order.

Looks like I have a new go-to for crispy,  juicy, aromatic & tasty har cheong gai – so glad Ah Tan Wings did not disappoint!
