Don Mendoza is Deputy Features Editor with TODAY, MediaCorp Press. His rooted passion for good food is no coincidence. In a career in journalism spanning over a decade, he has spent a good part of it stewing over a wide range of matters relating to living and eating well, constantly honing a keen grasp of gastronomy.
He continues to juggle pen and personal pursuits over a hot stove, delineating the evolutionary nature of the culinary arts and its reign over the way we break bread. This involves chasing down dining trends and reviewing restaurants, while always making time to advocate the importance of sustainable consumption and the need for consumers to nurture a vested interest in the foods we love.
His work in publishing also entails editing recipes, even publishing a few of his own along the way — for example, with Marie Claire magazine and for Female magazine’s Female Cookbook annuals back in the day.
Following a fruitful tenure as the editor for Singapore’s oldest food and wine publication, Wine & Dine, Don embraced the challenge of engaging a wider audience, taking on a broader portfolio as a member of the features team at MediaCorp Press TODAY newspaper. He remains ever instinctive when picking the brains of the hottest newsmakers, whether it’s iconic innovator and chef Ferran Adria or the world’s most awarded chef and restaurateur Joel Robuchon — or, for that matter, screen and stage veteran Sigourney Weaver. He is equally insightful when expounding on the merits of Bordeaux’s best wines as he is when sizing up a retrospective by Britain’s Damien Hirst’s at the Tate Modern.
On top of his responsibilities as Deputy Features Editor, Don maintains his charge of the F&B beat. He continues to be a respected name in the scene, featuring on the panel for renowned compendiums such as The Miele Guide (Asia’s top restaurant guide) since its inception. And as a guest judge for various international competitions, such as the Asian Pastry Cup (the Asian leg of the World Pastry Cup) and Diageo Reserve’s Search For The World’s Best Bartender (Singapore leg).
