As we count down to the easing of the circuit breaker, how about a charcoal roasted meat feast? This week, have a gorgeously smokey set meal from RV Roasted Delight delivered straight to your doorstep at a reasonable price! Their meal sets for three to 8 people range from $21.80 to $71.80 and set meals for two range from $18.80 – 20.80, which is the one I chose. Package C for 2 consists of ¼ roast duck (upper quarter – which means I got a lovely juicy leg, breast meat and a little rib meat), plus an extra choice of 2 meats – choose from roast duck, chicken, char siew, roasted crispy pork belly or sausage. I went with the classic combo of roasted pork and char siew. White rice and oyster sauce vegetable with fried shallot rounded off the meal.

The roasted duck, in my opinion was the clear winner – really beautifully seasoned, with quite a refined taste that wasn’t too game-y or overpowering.

Best of all, even the breast meat, was really tender and moist, not too fatty, with a crisp skin that withstood the journey from east to west.

The accompanying duck sauce was also delicately flavoured, with a herbal, savoury, pleasantly bitter-sweet taste.

The roasted crispy pork belly  was appealingly striated with fat and meat, boasting a crusty, savoury bark and a cap of crackling that needed just a blast in the oven to crisp up.

The char siew – shiny with a sweet and savoury sauce – was a yummy mix of fats and lean meat, giving it good chew and those coveted, caramelized burnt ends everyone fights over.

A gold star must also be given to the excellent chilli paste, which was intensely umami, very flavourful and heavy with the essence of dried shrimp. It went especially well with the sweet glaze of the char siew.

It turned out to be a very filling set for 2 and probably was enough to feed 3. But if you’re really hungry, you can order  ala carte extras, including braised eggs for 50 cents or swop out the rice for Hokkien egg noodles or kway teow for just $1.50.

All in all, RV roasted delights was a great discovery – value for money, quality roasts and easy to order via WhatsApp with prompt delivery, which is free for a minimum order of $30 and just $3 otherwise. For more details and the full menu, you can visit their facebook page (click link below).
