Are you in the mood for a lazy, massive meal this weekend? That can only mean one thing…

BRUNCH!

And our Makan Kaki, FatFuku’s Annette Tan, has just the place for you. She often gets asked where’s a good place for brunch and while there are loads of places to choose from in Singapore, this is one of the most impressive she’s had recently. It can be found at the top of the Swissôtel Stamford, in their beautiful, contemporary grill restaurant SKAI, which boasts magnificent views of the Singapore skyline and really good, instagram-worthy lighting  from their floor-to-ceiling windows.

Unlike the usual self-serve spread, SKAI serves up a mostly ala carte buffet, which means your server brings you a menu and you can order as many portions as you want.  Your food arrives fresher because it’s made-to-order and hasn’t been sitting on a buffet table for hours. So one of the first things you should try is a loaf of their incredible bread – crackly, toasty, crusty and hot, perfect for slathering copious amounts of mushroom butter on! This butter is redolent with the heady, earthy aroma and flavour of Porcini – irresistible! It’s exactly what you want when you get up late on the weekend and are looking for something tasty to indulge in.

Annette also recommends the Yellow Fin Tuna which gives you good hit of spice from the Japanese Togarashi red peppers. It’s a dish that’s sharp and clean, with richness thanks to the hint of fatty tuna. It’s also a lovely, fresh start to the meal with great texture and crunch from the cucumbers and sesame cracker. Another good starter to try is the piquant Wagyu Beef Tataki, which comes with a truffle sauce. You get succulent meat that’s full of flavour and before you know it, you’ll be ordering three more, which is perfectly fine because it’s an ala carte buffet!

So by the time you get to the main courses, you might be a bit full, but soldier on! It’s worth it! One of the mains Annette likes most is the SKAI steak the hand-cut chips. You can’t go wrong with excellent meat and potatoes done just right. The beef came nicely prepared, medium rare as requested and the fat chips had light, creamy centres and really crisp skins. Really good.

Full disclosure now, this brunch comes with a price tag that might make you do a double-take ($128++ for free-flow food, wine, beer, soft drinks and coffee OR $148++ for free-flow food, Tattinger Brut Reserve Champagne, Cocktails, Wines, beers, soft drinks and coffee). But if you’re a big eater, SKAI is really worth a visit for a gut-bursting, tastebud-tantalising brunch. Savour top quality food that you can have as much of,  plus you have that gorgeous setting and not forgetting unlimited desserts, charcuterie, seafood and coffee.  Definitely one of the most exciting brunches worth booking this weekend!
